Philip "Phil" A. Pirovitz, cherished husband, father, brother, and friend, passed away suddenly but peacefully on May 18, 2026. Born July 23, 1948, in Bronx, NY. He was the youngest son of Rudolph and Irene Pirovitz, and grew up in Bronxville, NY. Throughout his youth, baseball was his first true passion and after excelling in high school, he went on to play at Iona College, now University, where he secured his BS in Accounting in 1970. After graduation, Phil went to work for KPMG. While there, Phil committed himself to his career, first as a tax manager, before ultimately achieving his career goal of making partner in 1986. In 1990, Phil transitioned to a new role as Tax Director at Bowater, Inc., which soon brought him and his family from Pleasantville, NY, to Greenville, SC.
Phil dedicated his life to his family, most especially his beloved wife and best friend of 42 years, Robyn, and his two daughters, Amanda and Sarah. Being part of what he called "his girls" lives made him the proudest, whether it was through the many weekends he spent tucked in the stands at a swim meet, diligently tracking splits on his heat sheets, or the handwritten letters he would write with articles clipped for future discussion. In retirement, Phil most enjoyed his mornings with Robyn, sitting side by side in their living room window, sharing coffee and notes on life. He was looking forward to welcoming his first grandson at the end of this summer, though with a hope of committing him early to the Yankees instead of the Mets.
Both while working and throughout his retirement, Phil took time, always, to dedicate to his church, Advent United Methodist. Over the years he acted as finance chair on numerous occasions, regularly served as a steward and usher, and later was a committed member of the Brothers Bible Study. Outside of church, he was a loyal fan of the Oklahoma Sooners and his Iona Gaels-though especially with his much-loved Sooners, he would often be too nervous to watch the games live and would instead record them to watch the next day. Phil was an avid golfer and excellent tennis player at Wykagyl Country Club in New Rochelle, NY, where he built what became the first of many lifelong communities of friends. Once he settled in Greenville, he was so delighted to find another golf home at Holly Tree Country Club, where he was a member of the Brassie Group. He considered the men he befriended there an essential part of his community.
Phil's life was built on a foundation of faith expressed through consistent service to others. He fully committed himself to the people in his life, always showing curiosity and deep generosity while quietly keeping so many organizational trains running behind the scenes. He was a joyful host, both at his home and his home-away-from-home at Litchfield Beach, showing his love through truly excellent cooking. For dozens of years, he would meticulously prepare, in full, a Thanksgiving feast for anyone he knew in town unable to travel, and he was famous for his pot roast and potato pancakes.
No matter where he was in his life, he was simply never too busy for a cup of coffee, a phone call, a walk, or a conversation at the clubhouse. When he was asked for his advice, he could not have expressed himself with more thought and care. His voice is the one his loved ones now cannot fathom living without.
Phil is survived by his wife, Robyn; and his daughters, Amanda (Pirovitz) Winburn and husband, Greg and Sarah (Pirovitz) Humphreville and husband, Alex; and step-granddaughter, Hannah Winburn. In addition, he is survived by his brother, Rudolph Pirovitz; sister-in-law, Teri Aulph; nieces, Kathy (Pirovitz) Hall, Karen (Pirovitz) Holley, and Leigh (Pirovitz) Kurdyla; his nephews, John Pirovitz, Scott Pirovitz, Josh Walker, and Brady Walker, and their children. He was preceded in death by his parents, Rudolph and Irene Pirovitz; his father and mother-in-law, Bennie and Marynelle Kiger; his brother, Richard Pirovitz; and his sisters-in-law, Betty Pirovitz, Anita Pirovitz, and Gwenn Pirovitz. https://www.thomasmcafee.com/obituaries/Philip-Phil-Pirovitz?obId=48458311

My heart breaks for the entire family and especially Robyn. It's so hard to loose the one who was the best thing that happened in your life. Sending my deepest sympathy and remembering the great times I had with Phil at PS#8 school yard playing stick ball! And of course being classmates and homeroom friends at RHS! It was so great to catch up with him after 50 years at the last reunion and seeing that great smile once again.
